Can Pendulums Lie? What causes the pendulum to move?  It is affected by energy or a force outside ourselves, or is it moved by us? You can use the pendulum to discover what thoughts and emotions are being held in the energy field.  You can use the pendulum to connect with the Soul essence, sometimes called the higher self.  This is where users of pendulums tend to become confused.  How does one know when they are connecting with stored thoughts and emotions, or when they are connecting with the higher self? The body is at the mercy of held thought forms and energy patterns until they are cleared and released, not conquered.  Conquering is a form on control.  Control is a form on denial.  Management might be a far better term to use.  Thought forms and emotional patterns are the tools a soul uses to grow and experience.  They are what keeps the "lesson" in place until completed.  They are the force of change.  The soul polarizes itself to particular vibrations, thus attracting the necessary elements for the experience.  Until the experience is complete, the energy cannot dissipate. the pendulum can be very useful in discovering the energy held in the field, bringing information up from the subconscious to the conscious mind.  Once information is in your consciousness, it is much easier to work on it deliberately.  When you do not know what you are working on, it is like shooting into the dark. Awareness can bring things to light, then you can direct the appropriate responses to the matters at hand, causing them to become complete within you. The goal of this lifetime is to acquire the correct tools for dealing with the energy patterns brought to light.  What good does it do to bring matters to the surface if you do not know what to do with them when you get them up there? Take out your pendulum and begin asking questions.  Just as important as your state of mind, is the wording of your questions.  The subconscious mind is very literal.  It does not translate the many threads your conscious mind weaves into a question.  If you ask, "Will I find love?", the subconscious mind will take that questions quite literally and look for the strongest vibration of love available, past, present and future, and answer with a yes or no.  However, what you really want to know is, "Do I have an intimate, loving relationship coming within the next 3 to 6 months with a person of the desired gender, that includes companionship and happiness?" It may take you 5 or 6 questions to obtain all the desired information to the wording of the first question. Is it possible for an outside energy to affect the pendulum?  Yes, it is.  There are waves of energy all around you.  Each person upon the planet vibrates in waves of energy, these energy waves are like little searchlights, reaching out for vibrations in alignment with soul purpose, drawing to the individual those people and circumstances which will further the should growth and expansion.
